Person-centred counsellor.

About me

I am a qualified, person-centred counsellor which means I work with you on your journey to becoming the best version of yourself, as I have a strong belief that you have within you the resources that you need. Sometimes we just need to uncover them together! I enjoy working with clients creatively, if this is right for you. I have a great deal of experience working with the LGBTQ+ community. I am also Neuroaffirmative, providing a safe and welcoming space for neurodiverse people.

I am registered with the BACP, hold a live DBS and am fully insured.

Testimonials

"As a neurodiverse trans woman I'm glad that I found someone who is kind, understanding and a trustworthy person such as Katie, she has gone above and beyond to make sure that I feel safe and comfortable even during my lowest times, thank you Katie"

"Counselling with Katie has been a game changer for me. I was scared to be 100% honest but she was not only non-judgmental but also so caring and compassionate. Others sessions I’ve had with other counsellors filled me with dread having to go to. But not with Katie. I genuinely looked forward to my sessions. I made massive progress with her, far more than I ever had with previous counsellors! See her for yourself and you’ll see!"

"Extremely personable, easy to connect with and talk to, and helped me to see my anxiety and mental health differently. I was provided not only with tools to help cope with the anxiety but also the beginning of steps towards changing how I view anxiety and therefore how it impacts my life."

"Katie came into my life when I really needed someone the most. She has guided me through my lowest points with kindness, care and thoughtfulness. Her sessions allowed me to be open and honest, in ways I had not before, which only reinforced the safe space she effortlessly creates. I'll always be grateful for Katie and the sessions we had."

"I have been seeing Katie for the past five months, and the experience has been truly transformative. From our very first session, I felt heard, understood, and supported. Katie creates a safe and welcoming environment where I can openly discuss my thoughts and feelings without any fear of judgment.

Katie's non-judgmental and empathetic approach has been instrumental in helping me open up and trust her, which is something I have always found very difficult with others. She has provided me with valuable insights and practical tools to navigate my challenges, and her professional guidance has helped me gain a deeper understanding of myself and my emotions.

Katie's ability to listen attentively and respond with compassion has made a significant difference in my life. She has a unique way of making me feel comfortable and valued, which has been crucial in my journey towards better mental health. Her consistent support and encouragement have empowered me to face my issues head-on and work towards positive change.

I have noticed significant improvements in my mental well-being and overall outlook on life. Katie's support has been a cornerstone in my journey towards better mental health, and I am incredibly grateful for the positive impact she has had on my life.

I highly recommend Katie's services to anyone seeking compassionate and effective counselling. Her dedication to her clients' well-being is truly remarkable, and I am confident that she can make a difference in the lives of others just as she has in mine."

"People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, "Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner." I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds."

Frequently asked questions

What is counselling and how can it help?
Counselling is a process that allows you to work through issues that may be causing you distress. The job of a Counsellor is to listen, understand and help you to find solutions to your problems, to assist and empower you.
I will not judge you, criticise, or advise you, but I will be respectful and empathetic, I can give you the space and time needed for you to talk about and explore feelings.
What happens during a counselling session?
The first counselling session is about us getting to know each other. This is a shorter, 15-30 minutes session that I don’t charge for as my priority is that you are comfortable working with me.
The second session will start with us spending 5 minutes looking at a contract of how we will work together with a focus on confidentiality. The rest of this session will be for you. Each counselling session will look a bit different depending on what is right for you. We always start with a brief recap on confidentiality and then it’s over to you. We may work creatively in some sessions using paint, clay, buttons, nesting doll or paper and pens.
How do I pay for my sessions?
Sessions need to be paid for 24 hours before by bank transfer.
How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on you and your needs. We will discuss this in the first session. I suggest that most clients take some time to review their progress in about the 6th session. Here we can discuss what is going well, what further needs you have, and any concerns. There is no limit to sessions.
Can I bring someone else to the sessions with me?
If you would like to bring someone else to the first short session this is fine, I understand that many people feel nervous about meeting for the first time.
Are my sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is an important part of counselling as I want you to feel confident that you can share your concerns with me. There are a few exceptions to confidentiality that we will discuss in our first session. They include:
I, like all counsellors, discuss my client work with a supervisor. During supervision you will not be identified by name or any personal details, instead you are given a client number.
If I feel you are at risk of harm to yourself or others I would inform the relevant authorities. I would always try to discuss this with you first.
If you have broken the law relating to money laundering, terrorism or acts of terrorism, I am legally bound to report this.
Do you keep notes about me?
I will keep brief, password protected notes. These do not have your name or any personal details. I will not share these with anyone unless instructed to do so by you or a judge.
